Operation Wicked

Operation Wicked

Greater Manchester Police is committed to working with its partners to tackle vehicle crime. To help achieve this, the Force has launched a major new campaign codenamed WICKED.

While the Force is experiencing reductions in vehicle crime compared to two years ago, changes in technology has meant new crime trends.

Between January and March 2006, there was on average 15 thefts of satellite navigation systems per day across Greater Manchester. The systems are being taken from vehicles where owners have either left it on display or just the mounting cradle still in place. Vehicles have even been targeted where the owners have removed their system and mounting cradle but the 'sucker marks' have still been visible on the windscreen.

In order to reduce your risk of vehicle crime, we recommend that you:

* Park in secure approved car parks rather than on street car parking - please click here for a list of car parks within proximity of the MEN arena

* Property mark all items of value with your postcode and house number

- UV marker pens can be ontained from yoru local police station.

Remember if its not marked it cannot be returned.

* Remove all items of property when you leave your vehicle including removeable stereos, Sat Navs, their mounting cradles and ensure you wipe away 'sucker marks' left on windscreens.

* Consider leaving your glove box open to show that it is empty.

* Secure your vehicle with an immobiliser, alarm or tracking device and make sure you use them.

* Always keep your vehicle locked. This includes closing the sunroof and windows, even if you only leave it for a few seconds.
